The Data Integrity Label at Wine Services

By Thomas from Wine Services

The Data Integrity Label has become a crucial issue in the management and protection of data within companies, particularly with the introduction of the RGPD in 2018. Wine Services, as an expert in wine and champagne data collection, is committed to the highest standards of compliance. This is why we have undertaken to obtain Bureau Veritas certification, a process that guarantees the reliability and integrity of the data we handle on a daily basis.

In fact, we are the only wine company in the world to have obtained this certification.

What is the Data Integrity Label?

The Data Integrity Label is a certification issued by Bureau Veritas that validates the implementation of policies and procedures guaranteeing the integrity of an organization’s data. This certification is part of a rigorous compliance framework designed to ensure that the data collected, processed and stored by a company is accurate, reliable and secure. For players in the wine sector, where data on vintages, prices and tasting notes are essential, obtaining this label is a guarantee of confidence and quality.

Wine Services wanted to obtain this certification when it launched a new service in 2023: sales analyses for merchants and importers, to reassure both parties that their data will remain confidential.

Objectives of the Data Integrity audit

The main aim of the audit conducted by Bureau Veritas is to assess the implementation and effectiveness of processes guaranteeing data integrity within Wine Services. The auditors are focusing on various aspects to ensure that the company complies with certification standards. The specific objectives of the audit are as follows:

  • Review documented information relating to the scope of labeling.
  • Technically validate the architecture and functionalities of the algorithms used.
  • Verify the implementation of security measures to protect data.
  • Ensure compliance with the RGPD policy, which frames the management of personal data in Europe.
  • Carry out an in-depth review of the audited organization’s status and understanding of the label’s requirements.
  • Obtain the necessary information concerning data management practices.
  • Determine the company’s level of preparation for obtaining the label.
  • Evaluate resource allocation for the final certification audit.

These steps enable Bureau Veritas to ensure that Wine Services meets all the criteria for certification and continues to guarantee optimal data management.

Audit methodology for the Data Integrity Label

The audit to obtain the Data Integrity Label follows a strict and systematic methodology. The Bureau Veritas audit team has put in place a rigorous process to assess the compliance of Wine Services’ data management systems.

Evidence gathering and process validation

The audit is based on the collection of evidence in sufficient quantity and quality to validate processes and safety measures. This includes :

  • Interviews with staff to assess understanding of procedures in place.
  • Observations of activities to verify proper implementation of controls.
  • Review of data management documents and records.
  • Technical tests to assess the effectiveness of information systems.

The results of these analyses are used to determine whether Wine Services meets the requirements of the Data Integrity Label.

Sampling as a method of analysis

One of the distinctive features of the audit methodology used by Bureau Veritas is the use of systematic sampling. This approach makes it possible to verify the conformity of a large amount of data by focusing on a representative sample. With a margin of error of 3 to 5%, this method guarantees sufficient accuracy to draw valid conclusions without having to examine each piece of data individually.

Audit results and findings

Audit findings are presented in the form of explanatory notes, justifying and detailing any non-conformities or observations made during the audit. These findings enable Wine Services to correct any discrepancies identified before obtaining the Data Integrity Label.
